Jones & Wagener Ghana – Junior Accountant

Jones & Wagener Ghana is an engineering and environmental consulting firm, currently heavily involved in mining related work within Ghana. As a result of ongoing growth in the company, a position for a Junior Accountant has been created, to better assist with ensuring that the revenue and expenditure is accounted for in an accurate and timely manner so that Jones & Wagener Ghana Ltd can effectively manage its financial resources.

This individual would be appointed to work in the Accra office.

The requirements associated with the position are as follows (mandatory):

  • BCom and/or BSc Business Administration degree with Financial Accounting and/or Management Accounting as majors (An additional Taxation major is beneficial)
  • 2 years minimum experience as an accountant

Preference to candidates with the following skills and attributes:

  • Aptitude for figures
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Good command of the English language
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and take initiative

The main duties associated with the position include the following:

  • Processing of Accounts Payable
  • Assisting senior financial staff with administrative responsibilities
    • Maintain control of source documentation
    • Maintain Asset Register
    • Maintain compliance with the Fixed Asset procedures
    • Generate year end Fixed Asset Reports
  • Invoicing
  • VAT calculations, reports and returns processing
  • WHT calculations, reports and returns processing
  • Follow up on outstanding WHT certificates and supplying suppliers with their certificates
  • Preparation of accounting entries to Trial Balance which are compliant with applicable accounting standards
  • Journal entries for accruals, depreciation, prepayments
  • Cashbook entries including petty cash transactions
  • Debtor entries
  • Creditor entries
  • General Ledger
  • Monthly reconciliation of accounting balances and transactions
  • Preparation of ad-hoc reporting requests
  • Assistance with annual financial audits
  • Accounts Payable
    • Corresponding with Suppliers on outstanding Accounts Payable
    • Compliance maintenance– ensure procedures and documentation for processing are compliant for Internal control requirements and management policy and procedures requirements
    • Re-imbursive claims processing
    • Reconciliations of Creditor Statements of Account to outstanding Accounts Payable balances
    • Purchase Requisition processing
    • Purchase Order processing
    • Filing and document management
    • Preparation of Accounts Payable / Re-imbursive claims batches for approval
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Following up on payment for outstanding invoices
    • Following up on outstanding certificates (WHT, WHV & VRPO)
  • Assisting with management of payroll – Leave schedules, employee documents, checking of timesheets

Salary package:

Market related salary including company benefits, dependent on individuals experience and qualifications.
