Application for renewal of water use licences for Syferfontein Colliery by Sasol Mining (Pty) Ltd in terms of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998)

Sasol Mining’s Syferfontein Colliery is an operational mine located near the town of Trichardt within the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality. Four separate Water Use Licences (WULs) have been issued by the Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation (DHSWS) to the mine, in terms of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998) (NWA). Three of these WULs are expiring before the end of 2021.

Syferfontein Colliery is therefore applying for the renewal of these three WULs in terms of Section 52(1) of the NWA. Details of the WULs included in the application for renewal are summarised below. The application will be lodged with the Mpumalanga Regional Office of the DHSWS.
